Alabama beat Auburn 52-21 in another eventful Iron Bowl. Here’s what Nick Saban had to say in the aftermath:
— Saban was happy with second half after giving a few away in the first half.
— Great crowd, great atmosphere.
— Happy for seniors for their last memory of playing here being that.
— Undefeated run in SEC “is quite an accomplishment” but it doesn’t mean much if they can’t finish the job Saturday against Georgia.
— On Tua’s day: He was happy with the way he contributed, great year and was happy to see Jalen get in the game. Didn’t seem like the team had the right mentality in the first half.
— The two quick TDs in the thirds quarter changed the game, Saban said.
— On the targeting flag: “A penalty is a penalty,” Saban said. It was clear Mayden led with his helmet and it’s dangerous. The rules are there for safety and “that was not a good judgement.” Keaton Anderson did “OK” after replacing Mayden.
— Saban was disappointed with the roughing the passer flags on third downs that extended drive.
— On Tua playing well on big stage: He never gets flustered in the game when things don’t go as well. He always responds how you want. Leadership is crucial and teammates have a lot of confidence in him.
— At halftime, Saban said they talked all week about execution and all their errors led to Auburn points. Blocked punt, trick play TD, not covering Wildcat TD. If you do what you should, success will come. Auburn thought they could win the game at halftime and they wanted extinguish that flame.
— Saban told a funny story about recruiting Ross Pierschbacher. Check out the video to come for that.
— Alabama didn’t run effectively today and they want more balance moving forward.
